Hello, and welcome to my New York Mets blog!
I am a 17-year old Met fan from the New York City suburbs. I live, breathe, and sometimes even vomit orange and blue (maybe I shouldn't have put that image in your head).
My story as a Met fan began a long time ago. I can't say for sure that I was indeed a Met fan at birth. My father, who introduced me to baseball, became a Yankee fan when he first moved to New York in the mid-80s. Now you Met fans are probably asking: How in the world was he a Yankee fan in the mid-80s...when the Mets were actually WINNING at that time? The answer to that is that my dad was quite the independent person and wanted to go against the crowd. He told me everyone was a Met fan at that time, so he became a Yankee fan really, to piss people off. But it was during the mid-90s, when I was still new to the world, that the EVIL EMPIRE started winning again. Thus, everyone became Yankee fans, which has been the way New York has generally operated ever since.
Of course, my poor father couldn't take this. Many people that he knew and loved would tease and make fun of him for being a Yankee fan in the 80s, only to see those same people become Yankee "diehards" in the 90s. By the time I was at the age to really start to intently follow baseball, my father was a Met fan. His instructions have been "Mets all the way, never go Yankees." And all the way with the Mets I will go.
I'd say I'm about a 30 minute drive minus traffic from Citi Field. I go to about 2-3 Met games every year, usually over the summer.
I hope to be back with more a little later! I'm really not great with sticking to things long-term, but I'm hoping this won't be the case. There are few things in the world I love more than talking about my New York Mets.
